Richard White
I often hear people commenting on, or criticising their in laws. Now I must be blessed because I couldn't be luckier than to have Estelle's parents - Marie and Richard - as my in laws. Although Richard's career took him down an engineering path, he would always find time to sketch or doodle, whether while on the phone or during a rare idle moment. I'm sure when Richard learned that I had joined the Bates Wood art group or the Downham Art Circle he knew that it wouldn't be long before I'd banging on his stable door to come along and sign up. He would always put up a great deal of resistance - but when he was ready he was good and ready, and the quality of his work was excellent. Some people don't how good they are - Richard, I think is one of them.
Calendar - 2010
Richard's calendar for 2010 collects a broad spectrum of his fine work. His delicate and feathery line work of January's 'Sam' and bold
pencil strokes of September's autumn fruit contrast well with his progression into the masterful use of pastels as can be seen in the ethereal 'Ships at Rest' and November's haunted landscape. To paraphrase the Hollies - 'He ain't heavy, he's my father in law'.
