Christmas Watercolours

With the festive season rapidly approaching I was deliberating whether to hand colour previously drawn artwork of local scenery,
or create painted artwork from scratch. When painting an exclusively pen & ink drawing, the dilemma is that the detail and line work have essentially dealt with the problems of creating perspective, form and atmosphere. I find that the drawing is 'full up' as it were - complete.
To go on and add an additional element such as colour can occasionally lead to the picture appearing overdone.

My response to the original quandary was to do both and also a hybrid of the two - partially redraw and hand colour the narrowboat piece, (adding a Santa hat to Poppet's head for good measure). With my eye on the originals, redraw the Signal Box, Town Hall and Clocktower but this time leave out a good deal of the linework and allow the painted colour to complete the image! Ely Cathedral is executed
in pen & ink from photo still to be coloured, and the 'Stargate - sunflowers' is a Winter recreation of an earlier artwork.
