Fen & Ink
Often when I undertake craft fairs, it's with a good deal of optimism for both good weather - or at the very least not wet and windy - and good sales. If there's not much selling going on I'll get enquiries for a commission or three. Sometimes these result in a job, sometimes not. After spending perhaps too much time in the studio it's always good to adopt a more sociable and high profile position in the town square. I find that the great british public like to put a face to a name, or in my case a picture. I carry a varied selection of greetings cards, small and large prints, and mounted and framed originals, but am often asked for calendars, local scenes are preferable. I've designed and produced a couple, and am planning a hatrick of calendars for 2012.
Calendars - 2011
For some reason I've always preferred to work alongside other people, both as a restaurateur and also in this instance where I've included the work of fellow Downham Art Circle members - father in law Richard White, and wildlife artist David Goddard. The subtlety of Richard's pastel and fine line contrasts strongly both with David's pencil tones and bold vivid colours and my dip pen & watecolour style. Not to mention the variety of content.

Full colour spiral bound A4 calendar, showcasing the talents of three local artists - two months to a page.
Calendar - 2010
Richard's calendar for 2010 collects a broad spectrum of his fine work. His delicate and feathery line work of January's 'Sam' and
bold pencil strokes of September's autumn fruit contrast well with his progression into the masterful use of pastels as can be seen in the ethereal 'Ships at Rest' and November's haunted landscape. To paraphrase the Hollies - 'He ain't heavy, he's my father in law'.
